Pollution Through China's Own Lens

About this Project
This project portrays the different factors of pollution in China through the Chinese social media site Weibo. Weibo is a popular microblogging forum, similar to Twitter, that allows individuals a channel for self-expression. The project aims to show the depiction of the politically sensitive topic of pollution through the use of crowdsourced social media data (via Weibo) in order to visually understand the conditions on the ground in the country and to understand the extent to which the topic of pollution is censored.
